For securing assistance and access provisions, it may be essential to present a medical letter or certificate. This documentation serves as credible proof for applications related to housing, assistance at airports, and accessibility at public gatherings or amusement parks.
Our GPs are able to issue a medical letter that verifies your disability and outlines its impact on your daily activities.
How It Works
At Dr.Online, we aim to make the process of obtaining a Medical letter as straightforward and convenient as possible. Here’s how it works:

- Select your letter: Select the letter your require, add to cart & make payment.
- Fill in the questionnaire & upload your evidence: Once your purchase is confirmed, you will receive a questionnaire via email. You will need to provide your name, date of birth, email address, details of your medical issue and photo ID, some services require an upload of your NHS Summary record.
- Doctor Review: One of our GPs will review the information you have submitted, so please provide as much detail as possible. If appropriate the doctor will issue your letter. If more information is required, the doctor will contact you via telephone.
- Receive your letter: At Dr.Online, we will provide you with a letter following review of the information submitted. This will verify your ailment and symptoms, denote whether your condition is persistent and specify any reasons for absence, recommendations or mitigating circumstances.
- If we are unable to provide your certificate we will process a full refund.
- Letters will be provided on the same day if ordered before 5pm. Any requested after 5pm will be completed and sent the following working day.

What do I need to provide?
- Photo ID – passport or driving license
- Upload of your digital summary care record
- Details of your usual/NHS GP
- Completed medical questionnaire
What conditions are classed as a disability?
In the United Kingdom, the Equality Act 2010 provides a clear definition of what constitutes a disability. According to this Act, a person is considered to have a disability if:
- They have a physical impairment. This could include conditions that affect the body such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, or physical injuries that have long-term effects.
- They have a mental impairment. This includes conditions such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, or autism.
- The impairment has a ‘substantial’ negative effect on their ability to carry out normal daily activities. The term ‘substantial’ indicates that the effect is more than minor or trivial.
- The negative effect is ‘long-term’, meaning it lasts or is expected to last 12 months or longer.
- The definition also includes progressive conditions, where the condition becomes more severe over time, and conditions that fluctuate or ‘come and go’.

As a digital healthcare provider, we regretfully cannot produce medical letters to validate the cancellation of any court or home office related appointments or attendances. It is more appropriate for your regular GP or Doctor to carry out this assessment.

For security purposes the following information is required to be provided via the Pre-Consultation Questionnaire/during the Video Consultation
- Photographic ID
- Name of Workplace and Job Role
- Your NHS GP details for correspondance
If you are unable to work or require amended duties your employer may request a Fit Note completed by a medical professional. Fit notes are sometimes referred to as a sick note or doctor’s note.
For the first 7 days you are able to complete a self certification document via the Government website (free of charge) but if you would prefer a private note we can facilitate this.
Our Fit Notes contain all the information needed by your employer or institution, including details of the issuing GP and their GMC (General Medical Council) number, reason for your sickness/amended duties and duration.
They also include a verification bar code which your employer can use to ensure it is a valid certificate.
- We provide Private Fit Notes, these cannot be used for Department of Work & Pension purposes such as benefits.
- They are for a maximum duration of 14 days, and we cannot backdated from the consultation date. If extensions required you are required to book a further consultation to discuss this with one of our GPs. Maximum total duration we can issue is 28 days.
- We are required to send a copy of the consultation to your regular NHS GP for continuity/information sharing purposes.
- Your employer is not duty bound to accept these Fit notes, it is at their discretion.
