About This Service

One of our GP’s will review your answers carefully, to ensure the requested medication can be prescribed safely. You will then be notified of an outcome.
  1. Your treatment has been accepted and you will receive an email code from our partner Signature Rx. Which you can take to most UK pharmacies, to redeem your medication (NB private charge for each script is payable to the pharmacy).
  2. Your request has been declined, our clinicians will either offer an alternative medication or suggest you complete a video appointment to discuss things in more detail.
 These services are for non-acute conditions, if you are unwell please seek urgent medical attention via 111/999 if there’s a life-threatening emergency.

Thrush is a common fungal infection caused by overgrowth of the Candida species, particularly in women. It can occur on various parts of the body including the vaginal area and the skin. Candida lives naturally in the bowel and vaginal area but causes issues when its numbers increase. Overgrowth can occur for various reasons including: recent antibiotic use, pregnancy, hormonal changes, weakened immune system, tight fitting clothes etc.

Symptoms depend on the area affected. Symptoms of vaginal thrush include; itching and burning around vaginal/vulval area. A thick whitish discharge (cottage cheese like) which doesn’t typically smell. Soreness when passing urine or during sex.

Some people notice a particular pattern to what causes thrush for them. Things which can help include: wearing cotton underwear, avoiding tight fitting underwear, using soap substitutes around the vaginal area, consuming probiotics.
 

No, thrush is not a regarded as a sexually transmitted infection. However it can be brought about by sex and passed on during sex also.
