Note – Travelling Whilst Pregnant

To evaluate your condition and provide a medical certificate, we need the following information:
  •  Gestation of less than 36 weeks (single pregnancy)
  •  Gestation of less than 32 weeks (multiple pregnancy)

However, travelling whilst pregnant with any known health complications could put you and your baby in danger. If you have been advised against travelling for any reason, or if your pregnancy is considered high risk, we won’t be able to provide you with a letter.

Regrettably, our doctors at Dr.Online can’t issue you a fit-to-fly certificate if:
  •  Your BMI was 30 or above at the beginning of your pregnancy – due to the elevated risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT or blood clots) when flying.
  • You are having a more complicated pregnancy with underlying health conditions or risk factors – it’s safer for you to be assessed in person.
  • You have any past or present history of the following: blood clots or deep vein thrombosis (DVT), high blood pressure, miscarriage after 18 weeks’ gestation, a heart or lung condition, severe anaemia, sickle cell disease, gestational diabetes, epilepsy, pre-eclampsia or a low-lying placenta.
Kindly note, Dr.Online can fill out additional forms for airlines or cruises, in addition to this fit-to-fly certificate for a fee of £25.

What will I need to supply?

To allow us to assess your condition and issue a medical certificate, we will require the following information:
  • A photo of your passport
  • Your gestation at the time of both departure and return
  • Your estimated delivery date
  • Any health or pregnancy-related issues
  • A copy of your recent maternity notes
  • Details of your regular NHS GP (if you have one)

What if I do not have access to my maternity notes?

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a pregnancy fit-to-fly certificate without verifiable evidence that you are receiving regular antenatal care.
All patients in the UK are provided with access to their maternity notes, which are usually handwritten – or patients may have access to an app that contains the same information.

For security purposes the following information is required to be provided via the Pre-Consultation Questionnaire/during the Video Consultation

  • Photographic ID
  • Name of Workplace and Job Role
  • Your NHS GP details for correspondance

If you are unable to work or require amended duties your employer may request a Fit Note completed by a medical professional. Fit notes are sometimes referred to as a sick note or doctor’s note. 

For the first 7 days you are able to complete a self certification document via the Government website (free of charge) but if you would prefer a private note we can facilitate this.

Our Fit Notes contain all the information needed by your employer or institution, including details of the issuing GP and their GMC (General Medical Council) number, reason for your sickness/amended duties and duration.

They also include a verification bar code which your employer can use to ensure it is a valid certificate.

 

  • We provide Private Fit Notes, these cannot be used for Department of Work & Pension purposes such as benefits. 
  • They are for a maximum duration of 14 days, and we cannot backdated from the consultation date. If extensions required you are required to book a further consultation to discuss this with one of our GPs. Maximum total duration we can issue is 28 days.
  • We are required to send a copy of the consultation to your regular NHS GP for continuity/information sharing purposes.
  • Your employer is not duty bound to accept these Fit notes, it is at their discretion.
